RAISE YOUR VOICE: KEEP PRINCETON PUBLIC SCHOOLS STRONG!

The Princeton Charter School has applied to the NJ Department of Education for an expansion of its enrollment by 76 seats. The expansion would take approximately $1.16 million in additional funding, plus additional transportation expenses, from the Princeton Public Schools budget next year and every year after that, for as long as the Princeton Charter School is in existence.

Princeton’s elected Board of Education voted unanimously to oppose the expansion because “it will have a substantially adverse impact" on the "Princeton Public Schools, the taxpayers of Princeton, and, most importantly, the current and future students attending the Princeton Public Schools.”

You can learn more about the proposed expansion, and its adverse impact on Princeton Public Schools, at this page that the district created to inform parents and on our Keep PPS Strong Facebook page.

Princeton Public Schools has until the end of January to submit a response to the proposed expansion. A decision on the expansion will be made by the New Jersey Commissioner of Education, sometime in February.

Keep PPS Strong, a coalition of concerned parents, residents, and taxpayers, created this petition to let Kimberley Harrington, the Acting Commissioner of Education, and Katherine Czehut, the Director of the Office of Charter and Renaissance Schools, know that there is substantial community opposition to the expansion request. Community opposition, expressed in petitions and letters to the Commissioner and to the head of the Charter School Office, has played an important role in successful prior campaigns to stop similar expansions.

WE HAVE ONLY A FEW WEEKS TO MAKE OUR VIEWS KNOWN!

Please sign the petition asking Commissioner Harrington and Director Czehut to reject this expansion. And please share this petition with others!

Dear Commissioner Harrington and Director Czehut,

We, the undersigned, vigorously oppose the Princeton Charter School’s application to expand its enrollment by adding 76 additional students. This expansion would have devastating consequences for Princeton Public Schools and the 3700 students served by the district. Please reject the application as it is not in the best interests of the Princeton community.

Sincerely,
